Reviewer: See Mario Bros. Movie In The Theater

“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” is a fun film for anyone who is familiar with Nintendo games. Now in theaters, “Mario” will be steaming on Peacock “sometime this summer,” according to Polygon. Definitely see this movie in theaters if possible, as one of the films best quality is its sound design.

“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” was released April 5. The nearly 2-hour long movie stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong and Charlie Day as Luigi.

The film’s biggest strength was the film’s use of music. The film is littered with iconic tracks from the Nintendo games. The best use of music was during the introduction of Donkey Kong, when the film utilizes the iconic “DK Rap” from “Donkey Kong 64.” Unfortunately, the film did not feature the creators of the song in the film’s credits.

The casting was excellent. The casting of Pratt as Mario was controversial, but he performed the role extremely well. Jack Black as Bowser is the best choice the directors could have selected for Bowser. Black was able to bring his joyful but cartoonishly evil voice to the villain.The film flips the typical narrative of Mario – where Mario and Luigi rescue Princess Peach from Bowser. In the film, Mario’s motivation is to save his brother with the help of Peach.

During Mario’s training montage, the film accurately expresses the frustration of playing the original Mario games, once you get past a new challenge it is likely to immediately die due to a small mistake.Beyond the references and excellent use of music, the film does not do anything spectacular with its animation or writing. Although the roles for Luigi and Peach have been flipped, this is only used to provide Mario with a mentor in the unfamiliar world he finds himself in.
