‘Scream’ If You Know What A Requel Is
January 31, 2022
What’s your favorite scary movie? My answer is easy: Wes Craven’s incredibly entertaining and terrifying hit classic 1996 horror movie “Scream.”
This popular movie starred scream queen Neve Campbell as well as Skeet Ulrich, David Arquette and Courtney Cox. With numerous sequels being released after the original, “Scream” has constantly made fun of the horror genre while still horrifying audiences within the storylines. Well Ghostface is back at it again.
The newest installment of the “Scream” franchise has been released, and you can certainly bet that Ghostface is back to his old tricks. While terrorizing Woodsboro, Ghostface is sure to bring heart-stopping jump scares, classic prank calls that turn into life-or-death situations, and most importantly, bloodshed throughout the entire community.
Only this time, Ghostface is determined to recreate the original movie, and is attacking the new generation who is related in some way to the original characters. In this new installment, you can most definitely guarantee that no one is safe, and it will certainly keep you guessing until the very end.
As a huge “Scream” fan, I was a little hesitant to see this new movie, as it is the first movie in the franchise not directed by horror icon Wes Craven, since he unfortunately passed away in 2015. However, new directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett exceeded expectations and lived up to the legendary Craven legacy.
“Scream” (2022) takes aspects from all four installments of the franchise and incorporates them into their own storyline. Throughout the franchise, “Scream” makes fun of sequels, trilogies, reboots, and now in this new movie it highlights the idea of a “requel,” following the original movie.
With the return of legacy characters, Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers, and Dewey Riley, all three of the characters remind the new generation of just how dangerous Ghostface can be and just how to survive a horror movie.
Not enough can be said about the incredible acting from both new and old characters brought into this movie. The return of Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courtney Cox was outstanding and was handled in such a way that brought tears to diehard fans’ eyes. While new actors such as Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Mason Gooding, Marley Shelton and Jack Quaid were mind-blowing to audiences.
Whether you were a fan from the original or new to the franchise, the performances from every single actor are incredible and allow audiences to feel passionate and connected to the characters. Audiences are able to feel a personal bond between these characters, making each attack and death scene more powerful and emotional as the movie progresses.
One performance that needs to be talked about more is the phenomenal performance by Jack Quaid, who portrayed Richie, and acted as a comic relief throughout this heart-wrenching and terrifying two hours of carnage.
If you are a fan of horror movies, and especially a fan of the “Scream” movies, I highly recommend the newest “Scream.” This movie is the perfect combination of terror, comedy and most importantly, cinematic intelligence.
“Scream” (2022) will certainly have you guessing until the very end and will definitely leave you with countless mind-blowing moments. Be sure to catch Ghostface as he terrorizes Woodsboro with his newest bloodbath in theaters now!
