Baristas Can Brew A Great Start To Your Day, If You Help

Terrilynn Coppola, Staff Writer

The first cup of coffee in the morning could make or break someone’s day. Most Americans flock to the nearest Starbucks or Dunkin bright and early before starting their days.
To these people, coffee is a very important part of their lives. Coffee is what fuels their day and makes them feel a little more ready for whatever it is they’re taking on. Most people have fantastic experiences when getting their morning joe. However, there are a few that don’t have that same experience.
Most would think, “Well, if they’re not having a good experience, it’s Starbucks’ fault”. This, however, is not always the case. Having a great customer service experience at a coffee shop is a two-way street. If you, the customer, are kind and polite to your barista, they will most of the time have the same attitude.
Baristas only want the best for their customers. They want their customers to have a good relationship with them and to have a great experience with their service. To do this, you need to treat the workers the way you would want to be treated; The Golden Rule.
Approach the cashier with a smile and kind greetings. When an employee says “Hello, how are you?” I would not suggest replying with, “Can I get a Venti Iced White Chocolate blah blah blah.”
Instead try, “I’m good! How are you?” And only then, should you start saying you order.
Now, when it comes to actually placing your order, you need to be patient. If you plan to order five drinks with all different kinds of milk, three drinks decaf and one drink half caff, go slow. All of that information is super important when making a drink because baristas want your drinks to come out just the way you want. If we misheard you that could mean having to remake the entire drink. Remaking your drink is the last thing either of us want.
Finally, now you wait for the barista to make your drink. When waiting for your drink, let the barista do what they have to do. They’re really good at their jobs and will make you the best Venti Iced White Chocolate blah blah that you’ve ever had.
On your way out, don’t forget to say “Thank you, have a good day!”
