Ditch Amazon wish lists. Instead, ask for money to study away!
Register with the International Education Center to go explore.
“I want to go. I’ve never been there before,” said Professor Zampogna-Krug, who is one of the professors accompanying students to Arizona. On the trip to Arizona, in one week, you visit the Grand Canyon, travel to the Mexico-US border and earn credits for a class.
If you’re attending classes at the Lincroft campus, then you’ve been walking past posters and signs advertizing for study abroad trips. The option to study abroad has always been something we heard about as college students, but where do they go? And why do they sell out quickly?
“Italy… sells out,” said Kat Carias, 28, coordinator of the International Education Center. This was the first trip to reach capacity.
“This one is culinary,” Carias said, noting what students will be studying while in Italy.
“Regardless of what they’re selling, it sells out” she continued. This could because all of Brookdale’s future Michelin-star chefs are deciding to learn the art of making pasta, or that those attending are anxious to taste authentic gelato.
The Italy trip is held every two years, so if you miss it this year, then prepare to scroll and watch your friends enjoy themselves without you. Hopefully “fomo” won’t be too hard on you, just prepare for the next one in two years.
This year Brookdale is offering three faculty-led trips: to Arizona, Italy, and London. On each trip students will have the opportunity to have fun through exploring the area while earning credits toward their selected study major.
The trip to Arizona will be for those who love natural views, mountains, sunsets and sun-kissed skin. Sounds like paradise, right? Students will have a seven-day trip to Arizona including time to visit one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon. The exploration is a perfect way to end the Spring semester since they plan to travel on May 29 to June 4.
In Arizona, students will gain an opportunity to have hands-on learning experiences and a “guided tour to see and learn history,” said Lucy Wadych-Ketley, 49, the assistant director of the International Education Center. Students will cross through the desert comfortably and possibly even cross the border to Mexico.
“This would be a great trip for students in photography, landscape and design,” said Zampogna-Krug.
“When the pandemic happened, we had to cancel five trips,” said Anna Flood, administrative assistant in the International Education Center.
With many spots filled already the study abroad program seems to have no problem to “get them hooked” according to Flood. To all the travel junkies, make it a friends trip and ask someone to join you, get them hooked on traveling too.
Students are welcome to visit the International Education Center in MAC room 114 to ask questions about the trip and to make their deposit to register to explore.
Financial aid can be used toward study abroad, check with a financial aid adviser to see if you qualify.
Go reserve your spot in the International Education Center then go pack your bag.
