Wellness is an important part of a person’s life. Brookdale’s Caroline Huber Holistic Wellness Center offers many different programs and activities to help students, faculty and other focus on their mental and physical well-being.
The Wellness Center offers many things that can help improve someone’s day. For instance, it offers a meditation series that will help participants immerse themselves in mindfulness.
Hi-Tea Tuesdays serves free tea, Chai Lattes, and Matcha while participants socialize with one another from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Also, every Tuesday they have yoga class with instructors at 4 p.m. Various equipment is provided.
A walking series features a walk through the paths and trails of the Brookdale campus. Therapy is provided to all students, and they don’t need insurance as it is free.
“We have events scheduled for students and faculty, staff and community members to get involved with each other. So, we have meditation, yoga, therapy, other socialization events, and just overall events to get people involved,” said Dayna Marchek, a 34-year-old psychology major from Freehold who works at the center.
Caroline Huber was the benefactor for the space, providing a large donation to Brookdale with the desire to create a Wellness Center. With mental health concerns escalating, the donation gave Brookdale the ability to face the needs of the community and ensure that they are putting the health and safety of the students at the top of their priority list.
“Caroline Huber passed away before it (the Wellness Center) opened. Her son, Sam Huber, is still very involved with Brookdale and the center, and we provide him updates fairly often on how everything is going with the space and our students,” said Patrick Zavorskas, coordinator of the Wellness Center, in an email.
“There’s something for everybody and it’s just a great place to hang out and get to know people,” said Marchek.
“My role is to create systems, partnerships, funding opportunities, and programs that support students’ basic needs, enhance wellness and social justice,” said Summer Deaver, the Director of the Wellness Center.
