On Tuesday, Oct. 1, a mobile barber unit will collaborate with the Caroline Huber Holistic Wellness Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Lincroft campus parking lot 5 to provide free haircuts to the Brookdale community.
The event, titled “In The Cut Series with Konscious Youth Development Services (KYDS) and ClipDart,” hopes to create a sense of community through conversation and connection. A community barbershop is traditionally a place of safety and sharing. ClipDart hopes to create that atmosphere and extend that
experience to the Brookdale community.
A barber who is skilled in working with all hair types will provide free haircuts while KYDS will provide community grounding experiences with a focus on mental health practices with those students who are waiting.
Kyle ‘Paco’ Parker, founder and CEO of ClipDart shared how ClipDart’s concept came to him via his own mental wellness struggles while attending Grinnell College in Iowa.
“When I moved to the middle of Iowa, I was not able to find a barber within hours who was skilled at cutting minority hair texture. That is when I truly realized how essential hair professionals are to one’s mental wellness.”
Parker explained that “Within most minority communities’ barbers are viewed as therapists, mentors and pillars of the community. The barbershop is a safe haven where generation after generation share stories, unpack struggles and listen to life’s challenges.”
“This continual mental struggle of feeling as if my culture was not included became one of the main reasons why I transferred after three years and started ClipDart’s movement,” Parker said.
ClipDart’s mission is to make a powerful, positive impact on the mental wellness of communities around the world through free, on-site haircare while emphasizing hair care professionals’ essentialness.
ClipDart Hair Professionals around the world cultivate equitable, cultural spaces within (and with) struggling communities using their unique and valuable talents.
All are welcome.
