Students who recognized that margionalized communities may feel like they are shouting into a void are coming together 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, in SLC 106, to discuss misogyny, racism and more. The panel discussion is designed to tackle difficult conversations and make sure students know how to make their voices heard.
“Is This Mic On?” is a response to students constant exposure to the intersections of misogyny and racism in its different forms ranging from “Alpha Male” podcasters, mainstream comedians, as well as conversations and comments across social media and streaming platforms. All of these voices don’t solely exist on an internet platform — they transcend it.
Led by Women In Learning and Leadership, WILL, the panel will explore the need for solidarity between women and marginalized groups as the narratives of misogyny and racism continue to expand.
The panel will discuss representation and the importance of being advocates for diversity.
While acknowledging the intersections of misogyny and racism, the group will offer a way to move forward, dismantling problematic ideas and histories in which marginalized people are ignored.
