The Creative Writing Club and Book Club held their first collaborative Reading Night, Friday, Feb. 28.
Brookdale students were encouraged to meet in Navesink III at 6 p.m. for an evening of reading excerpts from their favorite novels or poems or original works.
Some students shared poems and stories they wrote. One student shared a descriptive story about demons in a lounge, and Satan waling in to command the room as the most powerful demon. Another student writer shared a “sad” poem; the writer drew applause after reading and explaining all their poems are sad.
“Performers can share anything they’d like as long as it’s nothing too obscene or over the 5-minute run time,” said Luis Merino, a creative writing major from Asbury Park. “Although we don’t expect singing, if someone wants to, they’re more than welcomed to. Eardrums be darned.”
Book Club was revived as a club in Spring 2025. For those interested in joining, they meet every other Thursday, 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. in LAH 229. The Creative Writing Club will meet 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. in LAH 109 on March 6, 27, April 10, 24 and May 1.
Creative Writing Club plans to have another collaborative event in March. It will be CWC and Film + TV Club to host Brookdale’s first Film Festival, among other projects to be announced. CWC provided fresh donuts with an assortment of hot and cold beverages, and Book Club decorated the room with a reader’s ambiance in mind.
