On a recent Thursday, the Pokémon Go Club held a small event in MAN 106. The event was every Pokémon kid’s dream – to make your own card.
Club members laid out several stacks of free cards that students could pick. From there, tubes of acrylic paint, brushes, and aluminum to-go boxes masquerading as palettes were laid out on a separate table. Students were encouraged to grab the tools needed and do as they wish.
It was a relatively short and calming event. Club members put on a Pokémon soundtrack and worked on their own cards. Attendees came in several groups and worked for the hour and a half that took place during college hour, which allowed them to talk freely during a time when no classes were taking place.
Pokémon Go Club members also told attendees that they were welcome to grab as many cards as they wanted to have for themselves. The generous move by the members allowed students to create whatever deck they wanted with hundreds of cards available.
The Pokemon Go Club is one of the newest to Brookdale Community College, created earlier this spring semester. At the involvement fair, nearly 30 students signed up to become members.
President Sierra Celiberti of the club was also at the event. In an exclusive interview with The Current in January, she admitted that she and the other original members of the club didn’t expect so many people to not only join them but be so excited too. Since then, the Pokémon Go Club has had at least one big meeting a month for members, with tournaments and prizes being central to events.
