“I think I’ve always loved Pinterest,” said Maria Tzili, a 19-year-old Brookdale student, “I’ve had it for such a long time that I don’t think any other apps measure up to it.”
Pinterest is a platform that involves the reciprocation of personalized style and self interest. It is an avenue for creativity to blossom in all forms, whether that be through fashion, style, recipes, quotes and so much more.
Pinterest allows creators to save and pin their own specialized context daily. It allows people to create boards to stack certain images that fit certain aesthetics that the user may be trying to convey or obtain. In doing this, it also allows people to save their own ideas or art. Pinterest also helps users keep up with trends that are hitting the internet and certain vibes/aesthetics one may be trying to follow or become.
“My style is derived from that app,” Tzili continued, “My clothing and fashion sense comes from saving pins and getting inspiration from them. And the best part is, with Pinterest, I do not feel this pressure to have a certain x amount of followers or likes like other social media platforms.”
Pinterest is also a platform for engagement without needing to actually follow people. There is no sensational need to have people watching your account or waiting for your post. There is also not a hyper fixation on followers and likes because the app is so personalized. It is laid back and personalized for the users own content and interest that can be privated at any time.
Pinterest allows users to also categorize their searches and finds so users don’t end up losing their content to the algorithm. The boards are organized where users can save their photo or picture and have it curated to a different board so it can fit a certain aesthetic.
“I have an influx of boards,” said Summer Fesette, “I have boards on cooking, style, my favorite television shows, quotes, all sorts of things. I just like that my account is showing me things that I like to see or what I want to be rather just solely focusing on the like margin and account. I have an interest in collector items and dolls, so when I open the app and that’s the first thing I see, it gets me excited to keep refreshing. It’s one of the many reasons why I love the app.”
