Elder Scrolls: Oblivion is a 2006 action role-playing game (RPG) developed by Bethesda Studios. The game takes the player on a fantastical journey through a distant landscape called Cyrodiil. Throughout, players can expect to encounter a wide variety of characters and lush environments.
The game is credited as being beloved by players, with many visiting the game throughout the years since.
On April 22, Bethesda released Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remastered without any prior advertising for the project. Though this marketing decision was questionable, the game has been well received by fans. James Ketley, a 19-year-old liberal arts major and staff at Brookdale’s E-Sports Center, agreed. “I think it’s a lot more like Dungeons and Dragons compared to Skyrim (the 2011 Elder Scrolls title). You have more of an individual identity which I really like.”
Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remastered garnered over 170,000 active players at one time in only a single day after launch.
IGN, a video game centered media company wrote, “Bethesda definitely knew what it was doing there.”
The remastered version of the game offers players the same beloved experience from the original but now with modern graphics such as 4k resolution, 60 frames per second (FPS), and new textures.
“It might look all-new, but this is Oblivion alright,” according to Xbox Wire, a newsletter for Xbox-related projects.
As someone whose first introduction to the game was through the recent release of the remaster, I was blown away by the quality of the gameplay. Outside of the overhauled graphics I was especially shocked by the use of quirky mechanics and innovative quests within the game.
Ironically, the game made me feel as if I had missed out on such an incredible experience that’s already been available to me for nearly a decade. However, I am glad to have experienced the game firsthand as it’s been revitalized.
