Becky Bite’s (Food Column): Must try – Teppanyaki Grill & Supreme Buffet
If you guys can’t tell by now: I love Asian food. Their flavors are so different from those in the U.S.A. Their food makes my mouth water, especially ginger, spicy mayonnaise and vinegar. It is a different taste for my pallet.
So once I heard about an-all-you-can-eat Japanese dishes, you guys knew I was in. For this month, I went to Teppanyaki Grill & Supreme Buffet. It is located at 275 NJ-18, East Brunswick, NJ 08816.
This is a large buffet restaurant featuring traditional and contemporary seafood-centric Japanese dishes. Going on another food adventure brings a critique based on four criteria: service decor, price and portion. Put on some stretchy pants, as I take you through an all-you-can-eat paradise.
First, let’s start with service. The waitress was very distant. She didn’t really stop and talk. She would just walk by and fill your cups then leave. She would be there for a few seconds then she was gone. Otherwise, the wait staff there are really friendly. They’re “do the job then go” kinda people.
We know the service wasn’t super welcoming, so let’s talk about the decor. As soon as you walk in, there is beautiful Koi pond. There was also a beautiful water fountain as well. Customers have the option to sit at booths or tables. Their decor has traditional red paper lanterns with Japanese writing, which translates to “Welcome, Love, Peace, and Care.” It is very inspirational for people when they walk in.
Next comes the price of it all. All-you-can-eat, Monday through Friday lunch for adults is $9.99, Saturday brunch for adults is $11.99. For dinner, the price is $15.99 for adults, Monday through Friday and $1 more on Saturday and Sunday. That is a steal in my eyes!
Let’s get down to the best part, the food options and portions. For an all-you-can-eat the portion is how much you want to stack on your plate. You can take as many plates as you want fill them up and then eat away. Even though this is a Japanese restaurant, there is some American food, too. They have french fries, potatoes wedges, pizza, etc.
My favorite part of this restaurant: the hibachi! You see them cook with your own eyes. You have your pick, whatever you want! Your protein can be steak, shrimp, crab, and chicken. The vegetable choices are carrots, mushrooms, and beans sprouts.
This was such an amazing lunch. However, I have to give it a 6 out of 10. Not too expensive and so much food! However the waitress was not friendly and very distant, making me feel unwelcome. Overall, I liked the food and the range of American to Japanese cuisine. I highly recommend it. Get ready for your bellies to be filled, and then a very long nap.
