Stigma-Free Speaker Will Discuss Life In The Foster Care System Nov. 10

Jeanette Falotico, Staff Writer

The Psychology and Human Services Club has invited Brookdale student Jay Mahoney to discuss the challenges of growing up in the foster care system.

Scared and lonely during their childhood years led Mahoney to struggles in adulthood. These struggles include drug abuse, abusive relationships, and unhealthy attachments to others.

Today, Mahoney shares their story, so others understand that a bad foster home doesn’t set the scene for a bad future. But it doesn’t equate to a perfect life either, even after adoption. The mental health struggles that come from being in the foster care system are far more complex than others realize, and this is an opportunity to speak about that.

Please join Mahoney as they go past the surface and have a “Real Talk” about the challenges of stigma 11:45 a.m. Nov. 10, in MAS 100.

Participants may also register to attend via Zoom here.
