Whether you’re just a little curious about fashion and don’t know where to start or dream about it being your career path, Brookdale’s Fashion Club is the place for you.
“We’re doing patchwork. We’re making masks for charity. We’re having a fabric sale… There’s a lot,” said Danielle, a 20-year-old fashion design and merchandising major from Old Bridge and the treasurer of Fashion Club. “Even if you’re not a fashion major, I feel like it’s a good start to get into fashion.”
“We have a showcase in the fall coming up for student work, which is like a mini fashion show,”
she said. “It’s going to be a really good Fashion Club year.”
Anastasia Kanopka, a 20-year-old fashion design and merchandising major from Howell and the
club president, shares this same anticipation.
“I am so excited for everything we have planned this year. I have been working hard all summer along with my vice president, Hannah (Post), and my treasurer, Danielle, to make sure we have tons of fun events, workshops and trips planned,” Kanopka said. “As of right now, our entire fall semester is planned out to ensure that each meeting will be fun and interesting for members to attend.”
On Sept. 9, the club participated in the Involvement Fair. Here, students got the chance to wander
around, browse tables of Brookdale’s clubs advertising themselves and get to know what’s ahead for each club. The Fashion Club was no exception.
“I am so amazed by how successful this club fair was! Hannah, Danielle and I worked hard to make this awesome poster board and decorate the table and it looked amazing,” Kanopka said.
“We had people swarming our table all day, excited to learn more about the club and get involved. It was so lovely to talk to everyone, and everyone seemed so cool and so sweet. By the end of the day we recruited 70+ new members which is insane!!! I am so excited for our first meeting. It’s going to be an amazing year for Fashion Club!”
“I am so excited to meet lots of new people and be creative,” said Post, a 19-year-old fashion design and merchandising major from Brick, who serves as the club president. “Being in the club is such a fun way to see everyone’s unique style. Fashion is something that bonds all of us whether we are choosing to study it or not. It is awesome to explore different interests and branch out in new ways.”
“We also don’t expect anyone to make a commitment to the club so feel free to pop into any meetings that catch your interest and feel it out,” she said.
No matter where you might stand on your knowledge or experience in the world of fashion, Fashion Club is very inviting and open to anyone.
“Our biggest goal this year is to attract new members, so we’ve made sure that there are a lot of opportunities for people to get involved with the club,” Kanopka said.
“We have some sewing and craft workshops, trips to the city and even some networking
opportunities for those interested in working in fashion,” she said.
“As for this year’s fashion show, we haven’t begun planning yet, but we can promise it’s going to
be even bigger and better than last year’s!”

“We’re excited to announce that Nov. 25 is our official theme selection date, so that designers will have even more time to work on their collections. We have a lot of ideas for potential themes and are excited to start brainstorming with everyone.”
This year also introduces a new major event that has never been done before in the club prior.
“We are introducing something new this year and are planning a fall showcase on Dec.
16,” Kanopka said. “This gives students an opportunity to display what they’ve been working on this fall semester, rather than just having the fashion show in the spring. More information
about this event will be coming out soon. We can’t wait.”
Fashion Club meets at LAH208 every Tuesday from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
