“Local Summer” is the unofficial term to describe the Jersey Shore after Labor Day, which marks the end of the state’s busiest season. When “local summer” begins, crowds start to simmer down and Jersey Shore locals can enjoy the attractions in their favorite beach towns.

10th Avenue Burrito- Belmar
10th Avenue Burrito is an authentic Mexicali cuisine restaurant located on 10th Avenue in Belmar. While the burritos are delicious, they have many other options including a wide variety of tacos, quesadillas and enchiladas. The restaurant hosts specials all week long including an all you can eat Taco Tuesday. Additionally, it was visited by Guy Fieri and featured on Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives”. With live entertainment on weekends and your choice of indoor or outdoor seating (weather permitting), 10th Avenue Burrito is the perfect place to take in the last days of summer.
Rooney’s- Long Branch
A few miles north of Belmar, Rooney’s on the oceanfront in Long Branch provides beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean while guests enjoy an equally as amazing meal. Specializing in seafood and steakhouse options while also serving a variety of dishes, the restaurant has something for everyone. There is even an in-house sushi menu. Rooney’s is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.
Honeyberry Cafe – Spring Lake
This charming cafe located in beautiful downtown Spring Lake features many breakfast and lunch classics. They feature a variety of different specials on a daily basis for guests to enjoy such as pancakes, french toast, and sandwiches. For coffee lovers, the cafe has multiple latte and cappuccino options in addition to the house blend. Honeyberry is open 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. daily.
Mule Barn Tavern – Atlantic Highlands
Located at the tip of the beautiful Sandy Hook National Recreation Area, Mule Barn Tavern is the result of a restoration project. After years of work, the historic mule barn was transformed into the tavern, giving it a new life. This restaurant serves a variety of classic dishes such as burgers, seafood, flatbreads and more. This is a great spot to grab a bite for brunch, lunch, or dinner with family and friends while enjoying the breathtaking scenery of Sandy Hook.
