Started in 2018, Sea Hear Now is an annual music festival in Asbury Park that was held this year Sept. 13 and 14.
With over 25 bands across three different stages on the Asbury Park waterfront, Sea Hear Now has endless entertainment for everyone.
Each year the festival brings in a variety of performers and a few major headliners. Performers such as New Jersey native Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Nicks, and Green Day all appeared in recent years to name a few.
This year I was lucky enough to attend on Saturday; it was a wonderful experience that I will never forget!
The Saturday lineup was action packed. Luckily, there are three different stages that host the artists: the surf, park, and sand stages, so the 15 various performers on that day could have ample time for their sets.
The first performance that I viewed was The Alabama Shakes. The Alabama Shakes are an alternative band from Athens, Alabama. They are known for a variety of albums and singles such as “Don’t Wanna Fight” and “Sound and Color.” Listening to lead singer Britany Howard’s captivating vocals while the sun began to set was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
After the Alabama Shakes performed, I headed over to the food trucks. As someone who always loves to grab a bite, the selection of food stood out to me. Local food trucks from a variety of New Jersey restaurants such as Hoagitos, MOGO Korean Fusion Tacos, Macc’s Mac and Cheese along with many other options were available.
For entertainment while fueling up for the remaining acts, festival go-ers could watch a surfing contest between local pro surfers, hosted in addition to the music.
The final act of the night was Hozier. Hozier is an Irish singer and songwriter who is well known for his talented rock-inspired music. His hit debut single, “Take Me to Church,” is what kickstarted his career in 2013. Since then he has released multiple albums that have won him the title as a Billboard Top Rock Artist.
While the crowd was busy, what stood out to me about Hozier’s performance was his connection to the fans watching him. He considered those of us who were not so close to the front and walked out to sing more songs on a separate stage in the middle of the crowd so everyone could experience his music in the same way.
Overall Sea Hear Now is the perfect weekend for anyone, whether you’re a music lover, foodie, or even just enjoy the beach. There is something for everyone, and I already cannot wait for next year’s lineup!
