A costume contest with over $200 worth of prizes isn’t something that happens every day, even at this time of the year. But this Friday, Oct. 17, that’s exactly what’s happening, along with free food and much more.
“It’s gonna be great!” said 24-year-old education major Sofia Fullone. A Miami native, Fullone now lives in Long Branch, and has been spearheading the organization of this free event.
Being held in the Esports Arena in the lower level of the Student Life Center at 7 p.m., the event is far from just a costume contest. In addition, Fullone noted the many other things being offered, such as “carnival games… raffles, gaming contests, and more!”
The gaming contest will be in the award-winning fighting game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but with a twist.
“We’re only allowing spooky characters,” one club member said. “So you can’t play as Mario, but Ridley and Bowser are fair game.”
“I expect the simplest costumes that you could throw together with stuff in your closet, all the way to stuff you would see on movie sets,” said Jack Konar, an 18-year-old biomed engineering major from Howell.
“I plan on showing up as a wizard. You know Merlin from Sword in the Stone? Like him. Blue robes, pointy hat. Definitely a beard,” Konar said.
