The Innovation Network (TIN) Club at Brookdale Community College is holding an event 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20 to introduce students and the community to the Global Medical Relief Fund, a nonprofit organization that provides young people from around the world with life-changing reconstructive surgeries at no cost.

            Run by Elissa Montanti of Staten Island, GMRF helps children in third world countries who have been severely injured by natural disasters and war zones.  This organization flies the children to the United States to get the help and medical attention they need and cannot get in their own countries.

The fund works with Shriners Hospital in Philadelphia to provide surgeries and prosthetics for children with missing limbs as well as facial reconstruction for burn victims. GMRF continues to work with the children they help as they grow and need updated prosthetics.

GMRF founder Elissa Montanti, who has been named a 2018 CNN Hero, will speak in the Student Life Center’s Navesink I room on the Lincroft campus at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 20 about her charity and the children who have been helped. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask her questions about GMRF’s work and how it has changed life. Donations will be accepted, but are not required.
