This month, Brookdale’s Performing Arts Center (PAC) presents, “Godspell,” which is being promoted as “a high-energy, uplifting musical that transforms the teachings of Jesus into a modern-day celebration of love, community and joy.”
Originally written and composed in 1970 by John-Michael Tebelak and Stephen Schwartz respectively, “Godspell” features songs such as “Day By Day” and “Prepare Ye.”
Stephen Schwartz would go on to write such popular musicals as “Wicked” and “Pippin.”
Despite the play being nearly 60 years old, it has remained within the public spotlight and has been generally well received by the public and critics for its imaginative storytelling and praised for its message.
The songs featured in “Godspell” follow various music styles including pop, folk rock and gospel. These genres come together to deliver a unique listening experience.
The story is set in modern times and follows a colorful cast of characters acting as disciples to spread the message of Jesus.
In a Facebook post by the Brookdale Performing Arts Center, the show promises to “engage and entertain audiences of all ages, leaving you with a renewed sense of hope and happiness. Join us for an extraordinary theatrical experience that will have you singing and smiling long after the final bow!”
Performances begin Friday, April 5, and run weekends through April 19. Tickets start at $20.
