Student Discovers Even More Learning Outside Of Class

From skipping classes to staying late to attend events. My college experience completely changed once I started to get involved.
It was both accidental and mindful when I decided to attend events beyond the requirements for my class.
I joined WILL (Women in Learning and Leadership) because I attended their women’s health panel, and I loved the discussion. TIN was a no-brainer once I attended a Bonsai tree workshop and learned they established a butterfly garden and campus. And to fulfill the science lover in me, I’m looking forward to joining the biology club; they seem to have the most trips and special guests (both humans and animals).
It’s been interesting and helpful to attend events on campus, especially when there’s only one other student in the room. At first, I was a bit nervous when I would see it was just two of us, plus the speaker, but that’s when the discussions are the best.
What would be a lecture turns into a personal conversation, and you have your real-life Master Class with an expert you can meet with again.
The best part of attending events is that you meet teachers and people working at Brookdale who have a genuine interest in what they’re talking about and would be happy to speak with you again so you can learn more.
If you haven’t attended an event on campus as yet, you should, there’s one every day, don’t wait.
