Both the Brookdale Women’s and Men’s basketball teams have been making Brookdale proud with 16-8 and 17-7 records respectively.
The Men’s team won their game on Saturday, Feb. 9, 66-61 over Luzerne County Community College, and the women surpassed the Ocean County Vikings Feb. 13 with a 66-44 win in their last regular game of the season.
The Women’s team (17-8), seems to have a superpower in rebounding. They average an astounding 44.3 rebounds per game, led by sophomore forward Madison Fernandez averaging almost 14 per game.
On top of the strong rebounding, they have a solid scoring duo with their guards with leading scorer Emily O’Keefe and Ryan Bannerman accounting for 22 of the team’s 59 points per game.
Freshman forward from Keansburg, Ciara Johnson is “very excited for the postseason tournament.”
The Men’s team (17-7) has scored prolifically this year averaging just south of 80 points per game. With this being said they have multiple games with over 100 points.
Their Achilles heel seems to be shooting from beyond the three-point line, but when they shoot efficiently, they win. It is truly as simple as that. On the season they only have one loss when they shoot over 45 percent from the field.
The Jersey Blues are led by their 3 sophomores in scoring with Bruce Goodwin, Jack Zink, and Regan Burke being the only three with over 300 points on the year.
The leading freshman contributor to this point has been Devyn Wright-Myles averaging 12 points 7 rebounds and 2 steals per game. Devyn looks to take the reigns of this team next year saying, “When the season is over, we are going to look at where we can improve our team and work all summer and find pieces to replace four sophomores that played a leading impact on the team.”
The Men’s team is in good hands, but no question that there is a lot of production that will need to be made up for after this year. For now, they will look to cap off what has been a great season with one final regular season game followed by the tournament.
Good luck to the Brookdale Men’s and Women’s basketball teams and go Jersey Blues!
