A fashion by BCC graduate Catherine St. Germaine is modeled here.
“If you’re an incoming student, make sure you try your best to go outside your comfort zone,” said Catherine St. Germaine, 21, a recent BCC fashion design graduate from Freehold.
Over her time at Brookdale, St. Germaine has shown much growth in her skills, acquiring a certificate in fashion merchandising as well. Knowing she wanted to go straight into the program her senior year of high school made the transition much smoother.
Throughout high school, St. Germaine said she was always fascinated with fashion and how the industry worked. She describes her time at Brookdale as “very positive” and said it gave her “the space and resources to explore all the opportunities.”
Currently, St. Germaine is interning for a well respected stylist in New York City and also works as a seamstress. She got this internship by reaching out to her mentor via a story she had posted for interns with experience in sewing and fashion-related skills, which she has.
St. Germaine said it is very important to be active on social media and to have a Linkedin and other professional accounts.
“Sometimes it just comes down to connecting with people through social media,” she said.
St. Germaine advises current students to ask questions and get involved to help determine what they would like to pursue beyond Brookdale.
“I love the experience I have been having, and I don’t want to stop,” she said. There is so much to be learned from internships and Catherine seems to prioritize that right now in her life.
