Dating apps used to be seen as an easier and more helpful way to make that lasting romantic connection with someone. However, over the years dating app users are becoming dissatisfied with many asking, “What is the point?”
Many now believe dating apps are too much of a hassle, and they are starting to avoid the apps altogether.
While every user has their own experiences and stories to tell, many are complaining loudly that these sites are no longer good tools for finding love.
Many report their search for a partner is leaving them feeling frustrated, tired, or left with false hope. Those in their late teens and early 20s seem to be struggling the most. Many say they can’t find honesty, good communication or genuine intentions among the dating pool. The overall opinion seems to be that it is a lot harder nowadays to find a connection let alone know if it’s genuine. At best, they say, apps can help someone find a hookup.
“(Dating apps) can be helpful for sure, but I never really felt any genuine connection with the people I was talking to,” said one student who asked to be anonymous.
“In the beginning, they seemed easier to me because you can meet a lot of people quickly and you can do that wherever you are even if you’re just at home,” the student continued, noting that her opinion has changed.
“I don’t think they are a great option if someone is looking for a real romantic connection,” said another anonymous student. “A lot of people now are more interested in hooking up instead of getting to know someone, and Tinder is the go to app for a lot of those people.”
Although dating apps remain popular and continue being a tool to meet new people, the change in opinion surrounding them cannot be ignored. Convenience does not always equal compatibility. Which brings up an important point about modern-day dating; technology can help to introduce people, but a genuine relationship still relies on authenticity and effort from the individuals involved.
