New Jersey Chief Resilience Officer Nick Angarone will discuss the state’s ongoing efforts to address climate challenges during a free Science Mondays lecture 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 24 in the Twin Lights Rooms in the lower level of the Student Life Center.
Angarone, who also manages the state Department of Environmental Protection’s Office of Climate Resilience, will speak about New Jersey’s disproportionate climate risks, including sea level rise, flooding, air and water quality degradation, wildfires, biodiversity loss and urban heat islands. His talk will highlight statewide strategies as well as issues specific to Monmouth County.
The presentation will cover regulatory solutions, hazard prevention, mitigation, and recovery programs such as the state’s Blue Acres initiative. A question and answer session will follow.
As New Jersey’s chief resilience officer, Angarone coordinates statewide resilience policy, serves as vice chair of the Interagency Council on Climate Resilience, and oversees development of the Statewide Climate Change Resilience Strategy. He also provides technical guidance and support to local governments addressing the impacts of climate change.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the lecture will begin at 6:45 p.m.
