Coefficients. Manifolds. Antiderivatives. These are words that send a chill down the spine of many high school and college students. But for some, these terms are not scary, they’re a challenge, a challenge to solve a puzzle, to study and understand something so ancient and important that it is the backbone of our very reality: math.
For the past two months, Brookdale has been hosting lectures from world-class mathematicians on the importance of math and the doors it opens for a student’s future. From software engineers to biotechnology inventors to cardiovascular thoracic nurses, we have had a veritable flood of expertise coming in to educate the student body.
The third and final lecture will be featuring speakers like Dr. Dilrukshi Hewage, a statistician working at the medical technology company BD, helping to save countless lives, and data scientist Marissa Joseph. Although the contents of their lectures remain a mystery, if their career successes are any indication, it’s sure to be a great source of knowledge on how to advance in a math career.
The program is being held at noon Thursday, Nov. 20, in MAS 100 and is free for students and faculty, but requires preregistration. To register, scan the QR code on the poster.
