The Student Life Board will celebrate the start of Black History Month with a flag-raising ceremony at the Arena flagpole in parking lot 6 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3.
The SLB will hoist the Pan-African Flag in celebration and solidarity of the African Diaspora.
The flag is tri-colored with equal horizontal ands of red, black and green. The red represents the blood that unites all people of Black-African ancestry and the blood shed for liberation. The black represents the Black people whose existence as a nation, though not a nation-state, is affirmed by the existence of the flag. The green represents the abundant natural wealth of Africa.
